I have written quite a few fundraising articles for social justice groups over the years for the now-defunct Grassroots Fundraising Journal, which was an amazing resource. I’m very sad that the Journal—which was published by my mentors Kim Klein and Stephanie Roth for many years—is no longer around, but I’m happy to announce that thanks to a partnership that Kim helped forge with a leading national nonprofit publication, all my articles and I believe all the articles that were ever published in the Journal—which focused on providing practical how-to information for social justice fundraisers across the country—are all available online at the Nonprofit Quarterly. It’s searchable by topic and also by author. The Journal also published the movement fundraising history piece that I posted here a while back about the United Farm Workers, as well as another piece I wrote with my colleague Stan Yogi about how the Japanese-American Redress movement was funded by the Japanese-American community. Even though times have changed a lot in the 20+ years I’ve been doing fundraising, I feel like the core concepts are pretty much the same, so I think these articles still have a lot to offer today.
