Recent Reading at San Francisco Climate Week

I’m horrible at maintaining this site, but I’m a little more active over at my Patreon page (and if you sign up for a paid subscription, your support will help me keep writing AKA buying books and pens, getting coaching support, etc.). But I did want to post that I did this fun reading last month as part of San Francisco Climate Week events, hosted by the good folks at Cafe Suspiro, and organized by T.K. Rex and the amazing Josh Wilson from The Fabulist. I am so glad Josh asked me to read and that I was able to do the event despite still being a bit limited mobility-wise because of knee surgery (I’m much better now, thank goodness). Here is a Facebook and an Instagram post about the reading, which also featured Nina Schuyler, Zoe Young, and Mark Schapiro. I usually dread reading my work in public but I had a great time at this event and it made me want to do more readings, and maybe even organize one of my own! I read an excerpt from my novel-in-progress, Red Delta Jolt.

I especially appreciated the post-reading panel that gave us authors a chance to interact with the audience and talk about our views on the climate crisis and environmental justice. Every reading where I’ve gotten to be part of panel like that has felt special and extra-satisfying. Also special props to my Mesa Refuge comrade Aimee Suzara for coaching me in my preparation for this reading, and thanks to my friend Tala for loaning me the lovely malong that I’m wearing to help me feel strong and held by the ancestors. It made a huge difference and I am grateful for her wisdom and sound, practical advice.
